How to Play Chess
Chess is played between two players on an 8×8 board with 64 squares. Each player controls 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, and eight pawns. The goal is to checkmate the opponent’s king.
Piece Movements:
- King: Moves one square in any direction.
- Queen: Moves any number of squares in any direction.
- Rook: Moves vertically or horizontally any number of squares.
- Bishop: Moves diagonally any number of squares.
- Knight: Moves in an “L” shape: two squares one way and one perpendicular.
- Pawn: Moves forward one square (two from the start) and captures diagonally.
Winning the Game:
Checkmate occurs when the opponent’s king is under attack and has no legal move to escape. The player delivering checkmate wins the game.
